Hello, my name is Chris Guthrie aka, thehalogod.
I’ve played video games throughout all of my life. I got my start on the NES and made my way up through the various consoles and even dabble in PC gaming from time to time; however, you’re probably reading this very post because you’ve seen one of my Halo montages somewhere online. I say somewhere, because they’ve literally been posted on every major Halo related website on the net. Let’s back track a few years though, on November 9th, 2004 I saw a dramatic decline in my GPA while attending Western Washington University because as we all know, that was the day Halo 2 was released for the Xbox. That’s not to say my GPA didn’t suffer from playing too much Halo 1, but it suffered a lot more once Halo 2 came out. Suffice it to say, I was addicted. Like Halo 1, I mounted up hours upon hours of gameplay. After playing Halo 2 for months I was playing with some great players some of whom now have contracts with MLG and I was also near the top of the team slayer leaderboards (way back before stand-by, modding etc.). At the time I was also in a video editing class and I thought it’d be a lot of fun to capture my gameplay and make a montage with all of my clips. For my first montage “Vengeance” (a video I didn’t release until nearly a year after I made it), I borrowed a VCR player from the college and hooked up my Xbox through it to capture my gameplay on a two hour tape. I showed the video to my classmates and got a very positive response so I decided to purchase a capture card for my PC. After capturing footage for a while I put out my “first” montage “Dust 2 Dustâ€, and being among the first group of people to do this sort of thing well many gamers took notice.
Thousands of people had seen that video and given me generally great feedback, especially after it was posted on the leading website for professional Halo players, Halo-Pro.com. Now at the time I didn’t think I was a pro at the game, but I was pretty good. My first video was so well received that I worked hard on collecting footage for another montage. After collecting enough footage I released my second Halo 2 montage, “Untouchableâ€Â in the summer of 2005. I estimate that it has been downloaded close to a million times from a wide variety of websites. It is still credited as being one of the best Halo 2 montages (I’ve heard this from countless people and am not trying to sound cocky).
Recently I’ve created two other montages, Just Wanna - one of the first montages focused on just having fun, and Stick to Your Roots.
- About page still not finished yet…
